Responsible Gambling
Gambling is a form of paid entertainment that carries a real risk of losing money. It is not a way to earn income or to solve a financial problem.
Before you play
- Decide how much you can afford to lose, and stop when it is gone.
- Set a time limit as well as a money limit.
- Use the deposit limits, loss limits and time-outs that licensed operators provide.
- Don't chase losses. The next bet is no more likely to win because the last one lost.
- Don't gamble when you are upset, stressed or have been drinking.
Signs that it is becoming a problem
- Spending more money or time than you planned, repeatedly.
- Borrowing, or using money meant for bills, to gamble.
- Hiding your gambling from people close to you.
- Feeling anxious or irritable when you try to cut back.
Self-exclusion
Provincial gaming bodies and licensed operators offer self-exclusion programs that block your access for a period you choose. If you want a break, this is the most effective tool available.
